Knighthood
If you wanted to become a knight, it took time....a very very long time. You would start as a boy, about 7 years old, around that time, and you would go through training all your life till you were about the age of 21, and then you would become knight.
1st Step of Knighthood
When a child that was going to be a knight was born, he would live with his parents until he was 7 years old. In that time, he would be taught good manners, the ways of a knight, and stories of great battles fought by knights. The child would also play games with a wooden sword and shield as a sort of practicing before real combat.
2nd Step to Knighthood
Anyone could be a knight, if they went through the training. The training is what was difficult because it was expensive to buy your weapons, armor and horse and any other expenses you might need. To make your way to being a knight easier, knowing the right people helped as well. If you were the son of knight already, that made it even easier for you. If you wanted to be the first knight in your family, then it could be difficult not knowing any other knights or other rich people.
3rd Step of Knighthood
When the boy was 7 years old, he would move into the house of his educator, usually a noble. As a page, he would wear clothing to match the colors of his noble. He would act as a servant to everyone in the castle under the noble's command. Depending on how rich a noble was, he would have more or less pages. Pages would range from the ages of 7 to 14 and over time would learning how to fight like a knight.
4th Step of Knighthood
Becoming a squire was one of the most challenging parts to knighthood. Pages would become a squire at around the age of 14, but if the page was able to achieve a great honor, they would move to squire right away. Squires were the servants of knights and would dress knights up in armor including their horses. They were also supposed to learn about how to act, jousting and music. Squires, since they had to supply their knight even in combat, usually died a lot, because while having to restock their knight with equipment, they didn't have much in the way of defense.
5th Step of Knighthood
After long years of training to become a knight, the person is finally dubbed a knight. This ceremony is performed by a local knight, or if the the person was lucky, it could be performed by a noble or king. The person is dubbed a knight when the person performing the ceremony says "Arise, Sir (name of person)". That ceremony is what made you go from a squire to an actual knight.
